Salesforce vs Zoho CRM for NZ Small Business: An Honest 2026 Comparison
For most New Zealand teams under about ten people, Zoho CRM is cheaper per seat and simpler to start. Salesforce costs more per user but grows further, has the larger local partner ecosystem, and from its Core edition bundles Agentforce credits and Premier support. Prices were read on 23 September 2026, and we say plainly when we would tell you to choose Zoho.

Which is cheaper for a small NZ team, Salesforce or Zoho CRM?
Zoho, at every tier, and Zoho publishes New Zealand dollar prices where Salesforce does not. Zoho's pricing page detects the visitor's country; a New Zealand visitor sees NZD, and the page adds that "Local taxes (VAT, GST, etc.) will be charged in addition to the prices mentioned." Salesforce's sales pricing page lists USD and AUD only.
| Product and edition | Price as published, 23 Sep 2026 | Billing | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zoho CRM Free | NZ$0, up to 3 users | n/a | Zoho pricing |
| Zoho CRM Standard | NZ$23 per user per month annually, or NZ$32 monthly | Monthly or annual | Zoho pricing |
| Zoho CRM Professional | NZ$37 annually, or NZ$56 monthly | Monthly or annual | Zoho pricing |
| Zoho CRM Enterprise | NZ$64 annually, or NZ$80 monthly | Monthly or annual | Zoho pricing |
| Zoho CRM Ultimate | NZ$84 annually, or NZ$104 monthly | Monthly or annual | Zoho pricing |
| Salesforce Free Suite | US$0 (AU$0) | n/a | Salesforce pricing |
| Salesforce Starter Suite | US$25 (AU$35) per user per month | Monthly or annual | Salesforce pricing |
| Salesforce Pro Suite | US$100 (AU$140) per user per month | Annual | Salesforce pricing |
| Salesforce Core | US$195 (AU$273) per user per month | Annual | Salesforce pricing |
We have not converted currencies; the rate on your invoice date is the one that matters. Two structural differences matter more. Zoho's FAQ says "You are not bound by any contracts or commitments. Zoho CRM is a pay-as-you-go service (monthly or yearly)"; Salesforce's Pro Suite and Core are billed annually. And Zoho's annual toggle, labelled "SAVE UP TO 34%", is the gap between the monthly and annual columns above.
Worked example for five users on annual billing: Zoho Professional is NZ$37 x 5 x 12, which is NZ$2,220 a year plus GST. Salesforce Starter Suite is US$25 x 5 x 12, which is US$1,500 a year, and Pro Suite is US$6,000. Our Salesforce pricing guide covers the add-ons behind the headline figures.
What do you get at each price point?
Zoho's tiers step up in automation depth; Salesforce's step up in platform. Feature headlines are the vendors' own words, read on 23 September 2026.
Zoho CRM. The free edition supports "up to 3 users", "up to 5,000 records in all modules" and "1GB of cloud space". Standard ("Beginner-friendly") lists workflows and assignment rules, AI agents, cadences, reports and dashboards, and sales forecasting. Professional ("Automation and AI") adds CPQ, email intelligence, blueprint process automation and inventory management. Enterprise adds the Zia AI sales assistant, journey orchestration, territory management, custom functions and customer portals. Ultimate adds enhanced feature limits, consulting and migration assistance.
Salesforce. Starter Suite lists lead, account, contact and opportunity management, built-in sales flows and lead routing, email and event sync, and email marketing with analytics. Pro Suite adds quoting and forecasting, AgentExchange access and a Premier Support add-on; the Web Services API on Pro is "Additional $25 USD/user/month". Core includes everything in Pro plus advanced pipeline management, opportunity scoring, conversation intelligence, APIs and Agentforce, with 500,000 Flex Credits per org per year, the Premier Success Plan, Slack Business+ and Tableau Next bundled. Our Starter vs Pro Suite guide and our Core, Advanced and Max guide go tier by tier.
The short version: Zoho Enterprise at NZ$64 has territories, portals and custom functions that Salesforce reserves for Core at US$195. Salesforce Starter at US$25 has the Salesforce data model and the AppExchange behind it, which Zoho Standard does not.
How do Zia and Agentforce compare?
Neither vendor publishes an independent benchmark, so compare what is included, not what is claimed. Zoho's pricing page lists "AI agents" from Standard ("Build and deploy AI agents to automate sales activities") and reserves the Zia "AI sales assistant" for Enterprise. Salesforce's post on AI in the Suites says record summaries and Draft with AI are in Free, Starter and Pro Suite, and that the Employee Agent can be activated "in Starter and Pro Suites with no setup or extra costs."
Above that, Salesforce's customer-facing Agentforce agents are gated: its pricing page says "AI can be added to Core and above", and agents consume "20 Flex Credits" per action, with additional credits at US$500 (AU$700) per 100,000 on the Agentforce pricing page. If AI is why you are buying, our Agentforce cost guide shows the per-action maths.
Which integrates better with Xero and the NZ tool stack?
Both connect to Xero, but neither vendor built the connector. On Zoho's side, the Zoho Marketplace listing "Xero for Zoho CRM" is "Developed by: Ulgebra", a third party, with "300+ Installs" and a free trial before a paid plan. Zoho's own no-code option is Zoho Flow, which promises to "Send information between Xero and Zoho CRM automatically, without writing any code".
On Salesforce's side, the options are AppExchange connectors, automation tools or a custom build, and the right choice depends on which system owns the invoice. We have written that up twice: how to connect Salesforce to Xero compares the connectors and costs, and Salesforce Xero integration design covers what to sync and what breaks first. Note that API access on Pro Suite is the US$25 per user per month add-on above, which some connectors need.
Beyond Xero, Zoho's integrations are strongest inside Zoho's own suite, and Salesforce's are strongest across the AppExchange. A team already on Zoho Mail, Books or Desk will find Zoho CRM slots in; a team that wants a payments, events or marketing tool with a mature connector will find more choice on AppExchange.
Where is your data stored?
Zoho has Australian data centres; Salesforce runs on Hyperforce in Australia but does not list New Zealand as a Hyperforce country. Zoho announced on 22 September 2019 that it had "opened our first two Australian data centres located in Sydney and Melbourne", and its data centre page lists Sydney as the primary and Melbourne as the secondary Australian site. That page maps service locations to data centres; check which one a New Zealand sign-up gets.
Salesforce's help article Hyperforce Data Residency (31 July 2026) says: "In general, customer data is stored in the country where their org is located, provided that the services the customer is using are available in that Hyperforce country." Its list of Hyperforce countries includes Australia and does not include New Zealand. Either way, get the data centre in writing before signing.
What does support cost on each?
Both include a basic plan and sell a faster one as a percentage of your licence fees. Zoho's support plans page says paid subscriptions "get classic support by default" by email, call, chat or remote session, with hours of "8 hours, 5 days/week" and an initial response time of 8 hours. Premium Support "Costs 20% of your subscription fee" for 24-hour weekday coverage and a 3-hour response; Enterprise Support costs 25% of the annual subscription fee, needs a minimum of 50 user licences, and adds 24x7 coverage, a 1-hour response and a technical account manager.
Salesforce's Success Plans page includes the Standard plan with every licence, and prices Premier at "30% of net licence fees" for a 1-hour response on business-stopping issues; from 3 September 2026 Premier is bundled into the new Core, Advanced and Max editions. Zoho's included plan states an 8-hour initial response; Salesforce's Success Plan terms give Standard a 2-day target during local business hours. Neither vendor's plan configures your CRM for you.
When should a NZ small business pick Zoho?
We would tell you to pick Zoho if most of these are true:
- You are three people, or five on a tight budget. Zoho's free edition and NZ$23 Standard tier are hard to argue with, and you can leave any month.
- You want monthly billing with no contract. Salesforce Pro Suite and Core are annual.
- You already run Zoho apps. Mail, Books, Desk and the rest connect to Zoho CRM without a marketplace app.
- Your sales process is a pipeline and a task list. Zoho Standard covers it, and Zoho Enterprise adds territories and portals for a fraction of the Salesforce edition that has them.
- Nobody will administer the CRM. Zoho's lower tiers are built for the owner to configure; Salesforce rewards, and often needs, an admin.
When is Salesforce the right call?
We would tell you to pick Salesforce if most of these are true:
- You expect to pass ten to twenty users, or to add service, a customer portal or a second team within two years. Our honest assessment for a five-person business is the place to test that.
- You are a registered charity. Salesforce's Power of Us Program gives eligible nonprofits ten free licences; see how nonprofits get 10 free Salesforce licences.
- You want AI with governance. Agentforce runs on your existing permissions and is metered; that is a cost, but it is also control.
- You want a partner with published prices. Our SMB packages from NZ$2,500 remove the biggest unknown in a CRM budget.
- Integration depth matters. The AppExchange has a connector for most of the payments, events and marketing tools NZ businesses run.
The truth that applies to both
Licence price is the smallest number in either budget. Implementation, data migration and the first year of admin decide whether a CRM pays back, and both vendors will sell you a tier you never configure. Cost the setup and the support alongside the seats, and pick the one your team will keep up to date. We made the same point about Salesforce versus HubSpot, and it holds here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which is cheaper for a small NZ team, Salesforce or Zoho CRM? Per seat, Zoho. As at 23 September 2026 Zoho shows New Zealand visitors NZ$23 to NZ$84 per user per month on annual billing, plus GST. Salesforce publishes no NZD price: Starter Suite is US$25 (AU$35), Pro Suite US$100 (AU$140) and Core US$195 (AU$273) per user per month. Both charge GST on top, and implementation usually costs more than the first year of either.
Does Zoho CRM publish prices in New Zealand dollars? Yes. Zoho's pricing page detects the visitor's country and showed NZD to us: Standard NZ$23, Professional NZ$37, Enterprise NZ$64 and Ultimate NZ$84 per user per month billed annually, or NZ$32, NZ$56, NZ$80 and NZ$104 billed monthly. Salesforce publishes USD and AUD prices only.
Can I start free on either platform? Yes on both. Zoho CRM's free edition is free forever for 3 users, with up to 5,000 records and 1GB of file storage. Salesforce's Free Suite is listed at $0 per user per month on its sales pricing page, and Starter Suite has a free 30-day trial for up to 10 users. Both free tiers are designed to move you onto a paid plan.
Which has better AI for a small business? It depends on the edition. Zoho lists AI agents from its Standard edition and the Zia sales assistant from Enterprise. Salesforce includes record summaries and email drafting in Free, Starter and Pro Suite, and the Employee Agent in Starter and Pro at no extra cost, but its customer-facing Agentforce agents need Core or above plus Flex Credits. Neither vendor publishes an independent benchmark.
Where is my data stored with Zoho and with Salesforce? Zoho has Australian data centres in Sydney (primary) and Melbourne (secondary), opened in 2019. Salesforce says customer data is stored in the country where the org is located when its Hyperforce infrastructure is available there, and lists Australia but not New Zealand. Ask each vendor, in writing, which data centre your account will run in.
